Royal Calcutta Golf Club: India’s Golfing Heritage

Founded in March 1829, Royal Calcutta Golf Club in Kolkata is India’s oldest golf club and the oldest outside Britain. Its history connects generations of golfers through a shared love of the game.

Royal Calcutta Golf Club, founded in March 1829, is India’s oldest golf club—and the oldest outside Britain.

The club moved to its present home at Tollygunge in 1910, opening an initial nine-hole course that November. The full 18-hole course opened in December 1912—so the founding date refers to the club, rather than today’s course.

For the DRS golfing community, this remarkable heritage celebrates the traditions that continue to bring us together: friendship, sportsmanship, and the joy of golf.
